[S2 ACT 1 SPOILERS] The amount of Music Videos in this season.

Main Post:

After enjoying the licensed music segments in the first season of Arcane, I'm a bit scared for this next season seeing as how much they've been leaning into it.
In the first season it was very well incorporated, it didn't take away from the current scene and it was only usually used when walking around in Zaun or a fight scene.
This season at the beginning of the episode there's always a song, and it's a bit jarring seeing as Enemy by Imagine Dragons is always played either before or after it.

In the first season there were fully 15 minutes of "Music Videos";
Where as just in the Act 1 this season, there's a whopping 111⁄2 minutes.

On top of that the first song in an episode is literally a genuine music video. I love seeing the different animation styles, but i genuinely do want to just see the characters talk about these things, I get taken out of the world seeing the "Zaun after Silco's Death" Visualizer which is very abstractly displayed and doesn't actually have a grounded footing in the show itself.
I think this is an awesome extra way to show the characters emotions, but maybe in dedicated music videos on Youtube. I would've liked to see the time used for Sucker used to characterize Isha more, rather than just having her be a child running away from goons while a pop song is playing in the background. Or instead of Hellfire being played Caitlyn explaining how they're going to release the Grey, maybe Vi's reaction to the fact she's basically allowing her people to be GASSED.
There's so much room for characterization in these little scenes that would add so much more impact than Fortiche just flexing their animation chops, which don't get me wrong, I'm all for, I just don't like how they're going about it.

In the first season when the Firelights were introduced in the cool aesthetic music video form where they arent fitting in the confines of how episodes usually play out it was so cool and special and unique because it was genuinely so fitting for them. They are literally Rebels, and a big part of the show that was known but totally unexplored for us. so opening the episode going BOOM they're making an entrance and you're going to learn all about them now is perfect. But it's not special if Everything Gets That Treatment. At least that's what i think.

But if you HAD to do the music videos at the beginning of the episodes, maybe Removing Enemy fully is the way to go. Just make the opening music video for that episode have all of the necessary credits. It would make for a much smoother transition from credits to show, and a lot less jarring to go from one music genre to another music genre in such quick succession. I think I literally got whiplash in the first episode.

I'd love to hear everyone else's thoughts on this.

Top Comment: I wholeheartedly agree. The first season, the music worked so well but this season, it’s like too much icing on the cake. Dyn&Dys was so effective because it felt specific to the world of the Firelights, it provided backstory for two characters we already knew but hadn’t shared screen time together, had use in showcasing Ekko’s relationship with time, and highlighted their innocence and the brutality of the world they’ve grown up in. It was unexpected but made narrative sense. While I would have liked Cassandra’s funeral and Sucker as separate visualizers outside of the show, within it, I wish they used the precious, limited runtime for more intimate moments with the characters, and I think that’s why I feel like so much is happening, yet none at all because too much character specificity and interiority is being sacrificed for stylization and spectacle. I know Fortiche and Riot love making music videos, but I miss the limitation they had to work with in S1, with 1, 2 songs max per episode, and only change the animation style when it really counts. If you try to make everything a Moment, then nothing is.
